Grandstream Meshed APs – DHCP or Fixed/Static IPs

Grandstream Meshed Access Points

Description

This article describes the behavior of whether the Grandstream GWN76XX meshed access points (Range Extender RE) are set in DHCP mode or Static IPs.

When the REs are configured with Static IPs, they may go offline and cannot be discovered even if the LEDs are solid blue.

It is recommended to configure the REs in DHCP mode so that the Wi-Fi clients acquire an IP.

Use a PoE Injector if you would like to set the REs with Static IPs. This is because any network glitch may cause the mesh to fail. Otherwise, the user will need to ensure that there is no other DHCP Server in the network connected to the RE’s Ethernet port.
