Unregistration Issues with Grandstream SIP Devices on IP PBX UCM63XX

Description

This article describes the recommended settings in Grandstream IP Phones to avoid un-registration issues due to unstable network connectivity.

Recommendations

  1. Network Settings > Advanced Settings > DNS Refresh Timer (m): 5 or 30
  2. Account > SIP Settings > Registration Retry Wait Time: 1
  3. Account > General Settings > DNS Mode: SRV
  4. Account > General Settings > DNS SRV Failover Mode: Use saved one until no response

Others

  1. Please try to enable the keep-alive option under SIP settings > Basic settings > Enable OPTIONS Keep Alive under the profile and set the “OPTIONS Keep Alive Interval” to a lower value. This is the interval at which the phone will send Kepp alive packets to the server to check it (in seconds).
  2. Please make sure to enable Keep-Alive under the extension settings on the SIP Server as well.
  3. Please try lowering the register expiration parameter under SIP settings > Basic settings > Register Expiration. Set it for example to 10 or 5 minutes. This is when the phone refreshes registration periodically with a specified SIP server (in minutes).
  4. Configure NAT traversal to Keep-Alive. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, try using STUN. In the Maintenance > Network Settings > STUN Settings section, you can enter “STUN.ipvideotalk.com” as your STUN server.
